Wetland Construction
Greenworks specialises in the civil component of constructed wetland systems including inlet and outlet rock beaching, sediment pond construction, overflow spillways, highflow bypass channel construction and bulk earthworks preparation for landscaping and revegetation.
Constructed wetlands are commonly used in urban environments as a natural way to treat wastewater including stormwater, sewage and agricultural runoff. Constructed wetlands are environmentally engineered ecosystems typically designed as a series of interconnected pools, shallow ponds and riffles, densely planted to help filter water through physical and biological processes.

Grasmere Creek Wetland
Instead of transporting 22,000 cubic metres of potential acid sulphate soil to landfill, the excavated soil from the Grasmere Wetland construction was treated on site and utilised to create a link between the Grasmere Creek shared user path at Buchanan Road and the Cardinia Creek Parklands. A great example of the circular economy in using waste as a resource. Money saved, community assets created, zero waste to landfill.
This wetland will improve the water quality in Grasmere Creek and provide habitat for Dwarf Galaxia, a vulnerable freshwater fish, through the creation of refuge pools.
Well done to all involved.
