Grasmere Wetland

Recently the Grasmere Creek Wetland Project was nominated as a finalist for the Victorian Water Awards, Infrastructure Project Innovation category.

The most rewarding aspect of being involved with this project was the innovative approach by all project partners to re-purpose and recycle 100% of materials. The resultant community, financial and environmental outcomes are a great example of the circular economy and the multiple benefits available. More than 22,000 cubic metres of acid sulphate soil excavated, treated and re-purposed, creating a link between the Grasmere Creek trail and the Cardinia Creek Parklands. Improved water quality, increased flood management capacity, valuable open space for locals, and refuge for rare and migratory species are just some of the benefits provided by this project.

A testament to the vision and commitment of all involved. Well done to #melbournewater and all of our project partners.
